[0:00] Hey, and welcome to a special mini-series of the Inspirational Soul podcast called Soul Conversations.
[0:08] These aren't interviews, they're not lessons, and they're definitely not polished. They're simply conversations. Conversations about life, about being human, about the moments that shape us, challenge us, break us open, and sometimes help us to find our way home to ourselves again. Over the years, I've had the privilege of sitting with thousands of people and hearing their stories. What I've discovered is that underneath all of our different lives, we're often asking the same questions. Who am I? Why am I here? How did I end up here? And how do I find my way back to myself? So wherever you're listening from, whether you're walking the dog, driving to work, sitting with a coffee or simply needing a moment to yourself, I'm glad you're here. Let's have a conversation.
[1:09] Hello and welcome back. As you all know, we are being in the thick of this conversation and this is soul conversation number three. And, you know, after reading all of the emails over the past couple of weeks, and sitting with those conversations and obviously lots of replies, you know, to-ing and fro-ing a lot of back, which has been fantastic to have, I've again been sitting with it and collating, oh my goodness, I've been collating my thoughts. You can tell I need another coffee. There's been a lot of emails already this morning. But the beautiful thing is, after all this, I have also kind of come to another realisation. And that realization is that through the emails and through the current conversations, we've spent a lot.
[2:08] Of time talking about where we went. So, what's actually happened to us. We've talked about responsibility. We've talked about becoming who life needed us to become. We've talked about losing ourselves, you know, and trusting our head more than our heart and wondering why we feel so disconnected. These are all very, very important conversations and I've absolutely loved having them. It's the amount of emails is just absolutely wonderful.
[2:47] But what's interesting is I don't actually think that what we've been talking about so far is the whole story because at some point, we've got to stop. We've got to stop looking behind us. Now, that doesn't mean that the past doesn't matter. Of course, it absolutely does. We wouldn't be where we are without it. But if all we ever do is understand why we're here we never actually ask where could we go from here.
[3:22] And that's where i start to wonder is that where possibility truly begins, now as you know like most of you know you've seen my post i have my coffee i've got my journal and so i do sit with this and I do like to ponder and I've been sitting with this one and I've come up with some questions. What if nothing actually has gone wrong?
[3:50] Maybe not in the way that you've been telling yourself it's gone wrong. What if this season of your life isn't a punishment? What if this season of your life isn't a failure? And what if it isn't because you've somehow lost your way?
[4:15] What if right now it's actually an invitation, i know some of you be like what what's going on here pete but and i know that it's a different way of looking at it, but the more i sit with people's stories and the more i start to wonder if the moments we think we are like are actually breaking us and pulling us apart, are often the very moments trying to wake us up. Now, you might be familiar with the saying, life doesn't happen to you, it happens for you. Well, it is interesting to look at that way because it can be easy to sit back and blame same life and see where you're at and going, things are hard and things are down. But when in actual fact, it can be life truly guiding us. And that's an important distinction.
[5:21] And, you know, some of you obviously are very familiar with my story, but just in case you might be new to the podcast, I just want to take a moment because one of the biggest defining moments in my life, was through this very reason.
[5:39] And it was back in 2011, and that was the Fukushima earthquake. Like the biggest, you know, biggest earthquake on record hit land or a populated area. And I think it's like the third biggest earthquake on record. It was a 9.0 earthquake that hit Fukushima. And of course, we had the, it was a trifecta of disastrous events. The earthquake itself was first second was the tsunami you know like if you go and have a google and look at those images like absolutely insane to think to see that amount of water move like that, then came the third and the third one was radiation that was the invisible enemy that was the thing that was just we just didn't know what was going to happen that was where the fukushima power plant was on meltdown. Now, where I kind of hit home a little bit more for myself and my wife, we were expecting our first child. Literally, my wife was 32.
[6:52] Weeks pregnant. So, very, very close to the due date. And we're sitting there and our house is only 60 kilometers from that power plant we were sitting there watching the news, and i've gone like what's going to happen is this thing going to blow up are we literally facing like the biggest nuclear disaster uh in our history i still think it is besides chernobyl but.
[7:16] But when you're in it and you live in it and you've got aftershocks after aftershocks, it was pretty full on. But of course, we just had no plan. It was like, what do we do here? So, as it turned out, we made the decision to evacuate and we were told to evacuate. Even the Australian government called my mobile phone. They called my phone number and said, you're listed as in the hot zone. We recommend you get out. So we evacuated and we decided to evacuate all the way to australia and so that's what happened then over the course of a couple months, what happened was we had to make decisions like well where are we what are we doing so it threw everything up in the air everything, like we're there we had our own business in japan we're running our own school like only really just started it i think it was about four or five months old so it was relatively new we invested money into that, my wife was you know trying to build that made a mom we went into business together with that so we had that starting a family we had the house and all of a sudden.
[8:24] We're in a brand new country well not for me but for my wife it was brand new country and we're having to adapt very very quickly.
[8:33] It's very interesting too because like if i look at that and going that was a big thing and you can easily point the finger and say, you know you know life and universe you know delta's a bad hand there.
[8:51] But looking back on it, I can actually genuinely say like that moment was a life-defining moment. It changed the trajectory of our entire lives in more ways than one. And the biggest one is right here. I'm genuinely living the consequence, of that decision and of that earthquake in that moment in time. And what was interesting is like it allowed me to step in and allowed me to start looking at moving into a professional career with, spirituality, with energetics, doing readings. Like, holy dooly, man. Like, I've literally, I'm recording a podcast. Whoever thought I was going to be doing that. All of these wonderful things. And like, it's all because of that one moment. Where literally the earth, you know, shook and moved and cracked open underneath our feet. And to look at it and going, and it's put me on this path.
[9:59] And you know what? That is just like, it's a huge defining moment, but it's just one of the many stories now I see in my life, like that have prompted me to examine things. That's why I always do. I get very reflective on these things and so, I examine them and I look at them, and I've become even more fascinated with it and one of the things I've become, fascinated with over the years is this.
[10:32] Most people create their lives from survival. We make decisions based on fear. We make decisions based on certainty. We make decisions based on what we might lose. And because of that, without even realizing it, we spend years trying to not to fail instead of creating something we genuinely love.
[11:13] So this is what makes me, and this is if you're listening and following along, like I want you to follow me here for a minute. What happens and where would we go if we changed the question? So just follow me for a moment. We're going to change the question. Instead of asking, how do I fix my life? Or like, how do I make my life better? That kind of question. So, instead of asking that, what if we asked, what would I love to create from here? Just take that moment. Can you hear and feel the difference in those questions? One question contracts us. The other question expands us. And that's why i look at maybe that's what spirits has been trying to show us all along and you know my work is an example of all of this it's all about how do we work with the expansion, be mindful of contraction, but let's have a look at the expansion and now i want you to really just tune in with me for a moment because imagine this for a moment.
[12:40] If you were working from what would I love to create, imagine what would your mornings feel like? What would you spend your time doing? Who would you spend your time with? What conversations would you be having? Would your body feel lighter? Maybe your energy would feel different.
[13:17] Would spirit and the energy feel closer to you? Would you laugh more? Would you create more? Would you finally write that book? Oh, I know some of you heard that going, boom, there's your little sign, right? But maybe start that business. Do that thing. Travel somewhere where you've always wanted to go. Say yes to something that you've been putting off for who knows how long, right? Or perhaps you would simply become more yourself as a result.
[14:08] There's some good ones in there. and I really encourage you to just kind of like you might even want to hit pause and come back and do that and if you feel drawn to that go for it but I know some of you would really feel some of that energy as we're going through that list, and so sometimes I think you know we are so busy trying to survive life that we forgot we're actually here to live it, if you've come to one of my advantage, you would have heard me say this over and over again, we are here to live life, not simply to survive and exist.
[14:44] And so, it's really fascinating, like, bringing all this together. And it reminds me so much of a wonderful lady that I've worked with. Now, to give you a bit of context and a back story so you understand, this lady comes from a very small outback town. That type of town that where everyone knows each other you're walking down the street you're saying hi you go to the grocery store you say that it was it's like it's a it's a very small town, so and it's like and it's nice because you know you have that it's nice and you get to know everyone and this lady had a very good job, a prominent kind of figure within the community and was very, very well respected. The other thing too is that this lovely lady also had a very strong ability, very strong on point intuition, had the ability to sense and feel things about the people around her and obviously even the energy and possibly people have passed over. So she's very, very well connected in that way.
[16:02] The only thing is, though, is that she didn't believe in that that much and she didn't trust herself or those abilities that much. And I do honestly believe that like, you know she was making me aware and a common phrase I hear from a lot of people and also this particular lady is that you know there's a, like the people around her that she's working with or you know just even socialize with the people in the town you know, the community the people around her didn't really understand or know or talk about this side of life or talk about these things, and so what i tend to find is like you know because of these situations and this is where it's really relevant, is that you know because she has no one really to talk to and nowhere to express this side of herself the one common phrase i always heard from her was this one.
[17:10] I just need more confidence. I just need more confidence and I've got more confidence and such and such will happen. So, it was just this big, big thing around confidence and confidence around her abilities and stuff like that. If I do this and then I can start to do that and this and whatever else, that's what I'd hear. It's like, oh, a bit of an I practice this much and then I can go off and do that. It was always these, you know, prefixes and these presumptions. And it was like, but it's always came down to that one thing.
[17:44] I just need to get my confidence up. It's like I can still hear her voice in my head. And it's just like, I think I gave her the eyes there a couple of times and those who have worked with me know those eyes.
[17:57] It's like, how many times are we going to go through this? But I'll give you those eyes as many times as I need to. But it was. It was about confidence, needing to get the confidence up. And look, it's a real thing. And I think so many of you possibly listening to this will also appreciate and understand that as well. But here's where it gets interesting. Because I had the privilege of working with this lady, and we had obviously some good one-on-one time as well, that by the end of our time together, she had finally come to realize something, something super important. What she had realized is that it was not confidence in using her ability that she was actually seeking, that was her first thought i need to get my confidence up but she's realized by the time we finished that's not what she was actually seeking, what she was seeking was the permission to truly be herself health.
[19:02] The permission to go and accept that she had these abilities, and to accept and give herself the permission that it was not her place to make or help others understand who didn't. Just accept that you have them and that it was a part of who she was. Once she understood that, oh my goodness, everything changed. You should have seen her, once that clicked into place, boom, you could literally see it click into place. And you know what I noticed when it clicks into place? And maybe you've seen this with another person that you've had a conversation with where it just kind of something clicks into place. When that clicked into place, confidence for her, for this lady, confidence was a natural byproduct of her accepting and being her true self. Once she had realized she accepted it and she gave her permission to be that and just have it for what it is and understand that it was not her place to make others understand or prove herself.
[20:16] Confidence was already there and that's what she ended up realizing. It was such a powerful moment and it's a powerful story that I love sharing because that story reminds me and it keeps bringing me back to a particular point.
[20:35] And the point that it kind of makes and makes me realize is that maybe the future isn't something we discover. It's not something that we walk into. Maybe the future is something we create. Not by going off and necessarily becoming someone else or a different version of ourselves, but by remembering enough of ourselves that we finally have something authentic to create from. Now, that excites me. There's a powerful word in there. Something authentic to create from. You've got to be authentic. And once this lady realized it, she became authentic, confident was there. She started to create. She started to move forward from her authentic self and move forward to create her future. It was so exciting to see. And this excites me talking about this with you because it means your story isn't written. And it means this chapter isn't the conclusion. So where you are now, it means maybe, just maybe, the most aligned version of your life hasn't happened yet.
[22:04] And I just want to say, don't give up on it. It's there. And I know sometimes we can wait a long time to get it, but it's there. And we step into it when the timing is right. And if this is resonating with you, let me ask you a few more questions.
[22:23] And it's not because I want you to answer them for me. It's just because I want you to sit with them. So this way it can start to move the energy for you. So, if fear wasn't making the decision, what would you create? If money wasn't the obstacle, what would you create? If nobody judged you, what would you create? If you trusted yourself completely What would you create? And if spirit, universe Or whatever label you want to put on it If spirit and the energy whispered yes In your ear Or made you feel it in your body, Would you finally listen? Thank you.
[23:29] Just sit there with the moment that you've just gone through this with. This is for you. This is all for you to start paying attention to. Because I have a funny feeling you already know the answer to those questions.
[23:54] And you know what? Maybe that's what all these conversations have really been leading us towards. It's not simply about remembering and it's not simply about reconnecting. Don't get me wrong, they're important. But about creating. Creating a life that actually reflects the person you've remembered yourself to be. Because let's face it, what's the point of reconnecting with yourself if you don't, then give that person permission to live? Maybe that's the real revolution we're discovering here. Not changing who we are, but having the courage to create a life that's finally in alignment with who we've remembered ourselves to be. And I have another feeling. As you know, I've got a lot of these, but I have a feeling that this and what you're working on now, it's only the beginning. So with that, again, I encourage you to take the moment. But I also want to say thanks for tuning in and I hope this might have created a spark within you.
